In the second year of life the child is still developing their motor skills, acquiring the necessary balance to dominate walking and the skills to protect herself and security reactions to face of obstacles and challenges of the surrounding environment. Also is getting the experience, though on a small scale, of fine motor movements, movements of rotating hands, and others.
Each step is crucial for the next step: If the child develops a particular competence of movement and is properly stimulated, she will feel increasingly able to develop new skills and make new achievements. It is important, however, to prevent that the child “jumps” stages of development. At every step the child improves motor skills, that impact at a cognitive, social and emotional level, that if not experienced will be lost.
There are toys more suitable for this stage of development that stimulate the child to gain fine motor skills, boosting earnings at this stage. It is the case of activities countertops, of telephones with buttons, bricks to assemble stackable toys, push and pull toys, books, etc. These toys allow the child to develop experiences to get and put, for recognition of shapes and sizes, colors, etc.
At this stage it is important to control the television time that the child is exposed to, as it is a fairly passive experience at a time when the child has aptitude for making major discoveries.
It is also important not to forget the countless possibilities of playing with adults that can stimulate the child and, at the same time, deepen relational ties. For the child are suggested circuits beyond obstacles, which can be created with the objects we have at our disposal such as chairs, ramps, furniture, tunnels, etc. Suggested is also playing with water, usually a big hit at this stage. And playing that involves moving the body, like balls, music, racing, games, etc. The most important is that the child has someone to play with, if possible, an adult available, who gets excited with the privilege of playing and go back to being a kid.
